Camino de Santiago

We asked a volunteer manning the Confraternity of St James office whether he thought we would be able to do the Camino, given our age. We had walked from Liverpool Street station to their office near Blackfriars as that seemed the appropriate thing to do, but 700+ km – and that was just for the Spanish part – might be a bit more of a challenge. He was very encouraging, assuring us that, provided we were fit and healthy and did not aim to cover more than 20-25 km a day, we would be fine.

We’d actually been dreaming of doing the Camino for years but were always ‘too busy’. When we both retired from work we bought a barn to convert and spent a few years sorting that out – so – still too busy. It suddenly occurred to us that we were not getting any younger. (Nobody is, but you know what we mean.) We reckoned we’d better get on with it. Casting around for information, we discovered the and signed up for one of their information days down in London.
