Threat of a doping scandal engulfing Le Tour de Coddenham has for the time being been averted. The FCC (Fédération Cyclisme de Coddenham) and CSADA (Central Suffolk Anti Doping Agency) enquiries complete, they are satisfied that the packet of drugs which sparked the controversy did indeed contain permitted substances. However, sceptical investigative journalists, smelling blood, complained that it is not known what else there might have been in that packet. Embarrassing headlines and questions in the House prompted Ollie Downbeat, Secretary of State for Digital Cults Mediums and Sport to refer the matter to the DCMS Select Committee. The race goes on. Viewers of TV coverage were treated to fine views of rolling countryside bathd in glorious sunshine and a tour of sites steeped in history including a Roman Road straight as a die as far as the eye can see, 2 recently discovered ancient temples, a different kind of temple where the bibles have handles, and a 500 year old cottage. Spring flowers provided nature’s bunting along the route. The breakaway group managed to hold off the rest of the field till the last few seconds when they discovered that the Peleton was already at the finish line, doing her Pilates.
